FotoGrids 1.1.2 is out: every EXIF field your camera records, and autosave, alt text and video playback that follow the settings you choose in wp-admin.

FotoGrids 1.1.2 is out. EXIF now reads every field your camera records, and the settings you choose in wp-admin, from autosave to alt text to video playback, are the ones your visitors get. There are twelve changes you can see, and a good deal more underneath.

Every EXIF field your camera records

FotoGrids now reads 22 EXIF fields straight from the image file: camera, lens, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focal length, flash, white balance, metering, exposure mode, artist, copyright, GPS coordinates and more. The gallery settings, the item editor’s EXIF tab and the Lightbox share one list of fields, so each one carries the same name wherever you meet it. In the Exif settings tab the fields are a single sortable list, and the order you set is the order the Lightbox shows them.

Settings that stay put

Autosave in the gallery editor follows your choice, on or off. Gallery Defaults saves only the settings on its own screen, so Google Fonts, news and every other setting keep the values you gave them.

Alt text now lives in WordPress’ own alt field, so the text you type in the item editor is what the grid, the Lightbox, your SEO plugin and screen readers all see. Autoplay, mute, loop and player controls set in the Video tab reach the player, inline and in the Lightbox, for your own files and for YouTube and Vimeo embeds.

Tighter by default

FotoGrids admin screens now receive only the data they use. Three API routes check who is asking before they answer, so password-protected and registered-users-only galleries keep their slide data private.

And many more improvements

Editing an item refreshes every gallery it appears in, so visitors see your change straight away, and the render cache clears out expired entries every day. Uninstalling with data deletion on removes everything it promises. The gallery and album settings panel is fully translatable, and From Folder, From ZIP and Video Embed ask before discarding a part-filled form.

The full list is on the changelog, and what comes next is on the roadmap.
