Each item in a Gallery can store EXIF metadata — camera settings, lens details, date taken, and more. This data can be displayed in the Lightbox info panel and used for filtering and sorting (Pro). FotoGrids stores EXIF values per-item, separate from the WordPress attachment record, so you can edit or override them without affecting the original file.

EXIF fields #
The following fields are available on the EXIF tab:
- Camera — the camera body used (e.g.
Canon EOS R5). - Aperture — the aperture value (e.g.
f/2.8). - Shutter Speed — the exposure time (e.g.
1/500s). - ISO — the sensor sensitivity (e.g.
400). - Lens — the lens used (e.g.
24-70mm f/2.8). - Focal Length — the focal length at the time of capture (e.g.
50mm). - Date Taken — the date and time the photo was taken.
- Copyright — the copyright holder or notice.
- Orientation — the image orientation as recorded by the camera.
- Flash — whether flash fired during the exposure.
- White Balance — the white balance setting used.
- Exposure Mode — automatic, manual, or auto-bracket.
All fields are free-text — enter values in whatever format suits your display needs.
Editing EXIF values (Pro) #
Editing EXIF data per item requires FotoGrids Pro. On a Free installation, the fields are visible but disabled. Upgrade to Pro to enable editing.
Which fields display in the Lightbox #
Which EXIF fields appear in the Lightbox info panel is controlled by the Gallery Settings → EXIF → Fields to Display toggles — separately from whether a value has been entered. Field visibility is also tier-dependent:
- Free — Camera, Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO can be toggled on or off.
- Pro — all remaining fields (Lens, Focal Length, Date Taken, Copyright, Orientation, Flash, White Balance, and Exposure Mode) are additionally available to display.
Fields left empty are never shown in the Lightbox, regardless of the display toggle.
Saving #
Click Save at the bottom of the modal to apply your changes.
Tips #
EXIF values stored here are independent of any EXIF data embedded in the image file itself. Editing them in FotoGrids does not modify the original file. If you want to pre-fill these fields from the file’s embedded EXIF, that is handled by the automatic EXIF import feature — see Editing Item EXIF Data for the import workflow.
