Autosave automatically saves your Gallery or Album a moment after you make a change, so you never have to remember to click Update. When it is on, the “unsaved changes” indicator is hidden and the browser’s leave-page warning is suppressed — you can navigate away freely knowing your work has already been saved.

Turning Autosave On or Off #
The Autosave toggle sits in the strip at the top of the Gallery or Album settings panel, to the right of the Defaults link. Clicking it switches autosave on or off for this Gallery immediately.
When autosave is on, the toggle is highlighted. Any change you make to the Gallery — a setting, a caption, a reorder — triggers a save automatically after a short pause. A “Last saved” timestamp updates in the publish panel each time a save completes.
When autosave is off, FotoGrids tracks whether you have unsaved changes and shows an indicator in the publish panel. If you try to leave the editor without saving, the browser displays a warning asking you to confirm before navigating away.
How the Save Delay Works #
Autosave uses a 2-second debounce. When you make a change, FotoGrids waits 2 seconds before saving. If you make another change within that window, the timer resets. This means that rapid edits — typing a caption, adjusting a slider — result in a single save once you pause, rather than one save per keystroke.
Saving Manually #
You can save at any time regardless of the autosave setting:
- Click Update in the publish panel
- Click Quick Save in the WordPress admin bar (top of the page)
- Press Ctrl+S (Windows / Linux) or ⌘+S (Mac)
If there are validation errors in the settings panel, all save methods are disabled until the errors are resolved. The Update button label changes to indicate that errors need to be fixed.
Autosave and the Unsaved Changes Indicator #
The unsaved changes indicator — a warning shown in the publish panel — is only visible when autosave is off and there are pending changes. When autosave is on, the indicator does not appear because changes are saved automatically before they can accumulate.
