Tags, people, and locations are metadata you can attach to individual items in a Gallery. They power filtering on the frontend, appear in the Lightbox info panel, and form the basis for Pro features like metadata-based sorting and map views.

Tags are free-form labels you attach to items. A Gallery can be filtered by tag on the frontend, letting visitors narrow the view to items they care about.
Adding a tag — type in the tag field and press Enter or click Add. As you type, existing tags from your library are suggested — select a suggestion to reuse a tag rather than creating a duplicate. Tags are not case-sensitive.
Removing a tag — click the × on any tag chip to remove it from the item.
An item can have any number of tags. Tags are shared across Galleries — adding a tag to an item in one Gallery makes it available as a suggestion in all Galleries.
People #
Location Gallery Editor → Manage Items → Edit item → People
People metadata lets you tag individuals who appear in a photo. This powers people-based filtering and, with FotoGrids Pro, AI-assisted facial recognition.
Adding a person — type a name and press Enter or click Add. Existing names from your library are suggested as you type.
Removing a person — click the × on any person chip.
AI facial recognition (Pro) — when FotoGrids Pro is active and AI facial recognition is enabled, a detected faces strip appears above the input showing faces identified in the image. Each detected face shows the person’s name and confidence score if matched, or an Add new… button for unrecognised faces. Click Tag to add a matched person in one step.
Locations #
Location Gallery Editor → Manage Items → Edit item → Location
A location associates an item with a named place. Each item can have one location at a time.
Setting a location — type a location name and select from the suggestions, or type a new name and press Enter. If the selected location has GPS coordinates stored in your location library, a small map preview appears below showing the pin position.
Replacing a location — type a new name and select from suggestions. The existing location is replaced.
Removing a location — click the × on the location chip.
Smart location suggestions (Pro) — with FotoGrids Pro, locations can be suggested automatically from GPS data embedded in the image’s EXIF. The suggestion appears in the input as you open the tab. Coordinates stored against a location in the library are used to display the map preview and to power map-based Gallery views.
If a location has no coordinates stored, a link to the location library appears so you can add them without leaving the workflow.
Saving #
Click Save at the bottom of the modal to apply changes across all tabs. Tags, people, and location are saved together in a single operation.
Tips #
Tags, people, and location names are shared across your entire FotoGrids installation — not scoped to a single Gallery. A tag created in one Gallery is immediately available in all others. This keeps your metadata consistent and avoids near-duplicate entries.
To manage, rename, or merge tags, people, and locations across the whole site, use the dedicated library pages: FotoGrids → Library → Tags, FotoGrids → Library → People, and FotoGrids → Library → Locations.
