Alongside video files from your Media Library, FotoGrids lets you add YouTube and Vimeo videos directly to a Gallery by pasting their link. The video becomes a gallery item like any other — with its own poster, caption, and playback options — without uploading anything or hosting the video on your own server.
Location Gallery Editor → Add Video Embed
Adding an Embed #
In the gallery editor, choose Add Video Embed to open the embed dialog. Pick the source, paste the link, and load it.

Choose whether you are adding a YouTube or a Vimeo video. The available options change to match the platform.
Link
Paste the video’s address. YouTube watch links, short youtu.be links, embed links, and Shorts links all work, as do standard Vimeo links. FotoGrids reads the link, fetches the video’s title and thumbnail, and shows a preview. If the title and thumbnail cannot be fetched, the video is still added from the link alone.
Start Time and End Time
Set a Start Time in seconds to begin playback partway into the video. For YouTube, you can also set an End Time in seconds to stop playback before the video finishes. Leave either at zero to play normally.
Caption
A caption for the gallery item. It defaults to the video’s fetched title, shown as a placeholder, and you can replace it with your own text.
Poster
The embed uses the video’s own thumbnail as its poster by default. You can choose a different image from your Media Library so the item matches the rest of your Gallery, or remove a custom poster to return to the default.
YouTube Options #
The Options tab for a YouTube video controls how the player behaves.
- Autoplay — start the video automatically. Subject to the browser’s autoplay rules, so it is most reliable combined with Mute.
- Mute — play without sound.
- Loop — restart the video when it ends.
- Player Controls — show or hide the player’s controls.
- Captions — show captions on the video where the source provides them.
- Privacy Mode — when on, YouTube does not store information about visitors unless they actually play the video.
- Suggested Videos — what YouTube shows when the video ends: videos from the same channel, any video, or none.
Vimeo Options #
The Options tab for a Vimeo video offers a matching set tailored to Vimeo’s player.
- Autoplay — start the video automatically, subject to browser autoplay rules.
- Mute — play without sound.
- Loop — restart the video when it ends.
- Privacy Mode — when on, Vimeo does not store information about visitors unless they play the video.
- Intro Title — show the video’s title in the player’s intro.
- Intro Portrait — show the uploader’s portrait in the intro.
- Intro Byline — show the uploader’s byline in the intro.
- Controls Color — set the colour of the Vimeo player’s controls to match your design.
Some options differ by platform because each player supports different settings. End Time and Suggested Videos are YouTube-only; the intro options and Controls Color are Vimeo-only.
How Embeds Play #
Embedded videos follow the same Gallery-wide playback setting as Media Library videos: Play Inline plays the video in its tile, and Video Lightbox opens it in an overlay. This is set in the Gallery’s Video settings tab, covered in the Media Library video article.
