FotoGrids lets you set a gallery’s click behaviour to open external URLs instead of the Lightbox. When this mode is active, clicking any item navigates to a URL you assign — either the same URL for every item, or a different URL per item. You manage all of this from one place: the gallery’s Interactions settings panel.
Location Gallery Editor → Settings → Interactions
Step 1 — Set the click behaviour to External URL #
In the Interactions settings panel, find the Item Click Behavior setting. It has four options:
| Setting | Item Click Behavior |
| Options | Do Nothing Open in Lightbox Direct Link to Item External URL |
| Default | Open in Lightbox |
Select External URL. This switches the entire gallery into external link mode — the Lightbox is disabled and every item click will follow the URL assigned to that item.
Once selected, two additional controls appear below: Default Link Target and Item URLs.
Step 2 — Set the default link target #
| Setting | Default Link Target |
| Options | Same Tab New Tab |
| Default | Same Tab |
| Visible when | Item Click Behavior is set to External URL |
This controls how links open by default across the gallery. Individual items can override this (see below).
Step 3 — Assign URLs to items #
Below the link target control, the Item URLs panel shows every item in the gallery as a thumbnail grid. For each item you can set a URL and a per-item link target — all without leaving the Interactions screen.
Editing a URL directly: Click the Link field next to any item thumbnail and type or paste the URL. The field saves automatically when you click away (on blur). A green indicator confirms a valid URL; a red indicator flags an invalid one.
Per-item link target: Each item has three target buttons next to its URL field — Default (follows the gallery’s Default Link Target), Same Tab, and New Tab. Click to override the default for that item.
Items with no URL assigned will not navigate anywhere when clicked. Assign a URL to every item you want to be clickable, or use the bulk actions to set them all at once.
Bulk actions #
Two bulk action buttons sit above the item grid:
Apply URL to All — Opens a modal where you enter a single URL and an optional link target. Clicking Apply to All writes that URL to every item in the gallery at once. Useful when all items should link to the same destination (for example, a portfolio gallery where every item links to the same contact page).
Clear All URLs — Removes every URL from every item in the gallery. You are asked to confirm before anything is cleared.
Editing URLs via the Item Edit modal #
You can also set or update an item’s external URL from the Item Edit modal. Click any item thumbnail in the gallery editor (or the pencil icon on hover), then switch to the Interactions tab. The same External URL and Link Target fields are available there. This is useful when you want to edit a URL alongside other item details like its caption or alt text in one step.
Changes saved in the modal are reflected in the Item URLs panel in the Interactions settings, and vice versa.
Removing a URL from a single item #
Clear the Link field for that item and click away. The URL is removed and that item will no longer be clickable.
