Removing and Reordering Items

The Manage Items view in the Gallery editor is where you control which images are in a Gallery and in what order they appear. Changes are saved automatically as you work.

Location Gallery Editor Manage Items

Reordering items #

Drag any thumbnail to a new position and release. A placeholder shows where the item will land. The order is saved immediately after you drop the item — there is no separate save step.

The arrangement you set here becomes the Manual sort order. If the Gallery’s Sorting setting is set to Manual, visitors see items in exactly this order. If sorting is set to Date, Title, or another mode, the manual order is used as a tiebreaker and is always the order shown in the Manage Items view.

Removing a single item #

Click the × button on any thumbnail to remove it from the Gallery. The item is removed from the Gallery only — the original media file remains in the WordPress Media Library and is not deleted.

Removing all items #

Click Remove All Items at the top of the Manage Items panel to clear the Gallery in one step. A confirmation prompt appears before anything is removed. As with single removal, the media files are not affected — only the Gallery’s item list is cleared.

Tips #

Removing an item from a Gallery does not affect other Galleries that contain the same image. Each Gallery maintains its own independent item list.
