Each item in a Gallery has its own details — title, alt text, caption, description, and credit. These are stored per-item and are independent of the original WordPress attachment fields, so you can set different values for the same image in different Galleries without touching the Media Library.
Location Gallery Editor → Manage Items → Edit item → Details
Opening the item editor #
In the Manage Items view, click any thumbnail to open the item editor. The editor opens as a modal with several tabs. The Details tab is shown first.
Fields #
Title
The item’s display title. Used when showing a title overlay on the thumbnail or in the Lightbox info panel, depending on your caption and Lightbox settings.
Alt Text
The alt attribute on the thumbnail <img> element. Describes the image for screen readers and search engines. A meaningful, descriptive alt text improves accessibility and image SEO. If left empty, the attachment’s WordPress alt text is used as a fallback.
Caption
A short text shown directly below or overlaid on the thumbnail, depending on the Gallery’s caption settings. Supports plain text. For HTML captions, see the caption settings documentation.
Description
A longer text associated with the item. Shown in the Lightbox info panel when the Description field is enabled there. Not displayed in the thumbnail grid.
Credit
A photographer or source credit for the image. Shown in the Lightbox info panel when the Credit field is enabled. Useful for licensed images or attribution requirements.
Saving #
Click Save at the bottom of the modal to apply your changes. Changes are not saved automatically while editing — only on explicit Save.
Tips #
All five fields are per-Gallery-item, not per-attachment. The same image can have a different title, caption, and alt text in each Gallery it appears in. The original attachment record in the Media Library is not modified.
If you leave a field empty, FotoGrids falls back to the corresponding value from the WordPress attachment (title, caption, alt text) where applicable.
