This article covers how to create a new Album, assign Galleries to it, reorder them, and remove them. You can also assign a Gallery to an Album — and create new Albums — directly from the Gallery editor.
Creating an Album #
- In the WordPress admin sidebar, go to FotoGrids → Albums.
- Click Add New Album.
- Give the Album a title in the title field at the top of the editor.
- Assign Galleries (see below).
- Configure display settings in the settings panel below the Galleries section.
- Click Publish (or Update if editing an existing Album).
Assigning Galleries to an Album #
The Galleries section of the Album editor shows two panels side by side: the Galleries already assigned to the Album on the left, and all available Galleries on the right.
To add a Gallery:
- Find the Gallery you want in the Available Galleries panel on the right. Use the search box to filter by name.
- Each Gallery card shows its title, item count, publish status, and layout. Click the + (add) button on the card to assign it.
The Gallery moves immediately to the Assigned Galleries panel on the left.
To remove a Gallery:
Click the − (remove) button on any Gallery card in the Assigned Galleries panel. This removes the Gallery from the Album — it does not delete the Gallery.
Reordering Galleries #
In the Assigned Galleries panel, drag any Gallery card to a new position. The order determines the sequence in which Gallery covers appear when the Album is displayed on the frontend.
Editing a Gallery from the Album editor #
Each Gallery card in both panels has an edit button (pencil icon). Clicking it opens that Gallery’s editor in a new browser tab, so you can make changes without leaving the Album.
Assigning a Gallery to an Album from the Gallery editor #
You don’t have to start from the Album side. Every Gallery has an Albums panel in its editor that lets you assign it to Albums — or create a new Album — without leaving the Gallery.
To assign the Gallery to an existing Album:
- Open the Gallery in the Gallery editor.
- Find the Albums panel (below the main Gallery section).
- The panel shows any Albums the Gallery is already assigned to, each with a ✕ button to remove it.
- Below that, a list of available Albums is shown. Use the search box to filter by name, then click the + button next to an Album to assign the Gallery to it.
Changes save immediately — there is no separate save step.
To create a new Album and assign the Gallery to it:
Click the Create New Album button at the bottom of the Albums panel. This opens the new Album editor in a new browser tab. Save the Album, then return to the Gallery — the new Album will appear in the available Albums list.
Album settings #
Below the Galleries section, the settings panel works the same way as in the Gallery editor — Layout, Captions, and other groups. These settings control how the Gallery cover grid looks. They do not affect how the individual Galleries appear when a visitor opens them.
Displaying an Album #
Once published, embed the Album with its shortcode or the FotoGrids block:
- Shortcode:
— replace123with the Album’s post ID (visible in the URL when editing:post.php?post=123&action=edit). - Block editor: Add a FotoGrids Album block and choose the Album from the dropdown.
